Hey my jewels!

It’s been forever but I am back!

Someone once said that the words I AM are “two of the most powerful words; for what you put after them shapes your reality.”

I remember first hearing the words I AM at the age of 10.  I had just entered the halls of a new school thanks to “zone” laws which basically made you go to school in the area you lived in.  I didn’t want to give this school a chance but even to this day I am grateful for the chance this school gave me.  This school wasn’t your normal school.  This school had teachers that truly cared. This school had teachers that wasn’t afraid to make you uncomfortable because of your behavior.  This school gave the kids who weren’t supposed to amount to anything the fuel and ammunition needed to prove the naysayers wrong. This school was Ivenia Brown Elementary.

Nervous to meet new faces, I sat in class and waited for the intercom to come on.  Not only did we say the pledge but we were also required to say a daily I AM affirmation.

The words were:

I AM somebody.

I CAN make a difference.

I CAN achieve.

I AM responsible for my own behavior.

I AM somebody.

Little did I know, that by saying this daily, I was creating who I would become.

Fast forward to today and I am still a firm believer in the power of affirmations.  Whether I listen to a recording every morning of me citing my daily affirmation or look at it written down on the bathroom mirror before I lay down at night, I AM affirmations continue to guide me and lead me to the path I want to follow.

What about the negative vibes that I may get? For every negative thing society or someone or you put out about you, you turn it around and affirm what you are, which is the exact opposite.

If society labels you as something because of where you come from or the choices you make, I have a strong belief that you will not become what society says you are.  What you are destined to be is shaped by you!

If society says you will be a high-school dropout.  You say: I will be a college grad.

If someone makes you feel ugly. You say: I AM beautiful.

If you want to be the best at what you do. Say: I AM the best.

Envision what you want.  Affirm it.  Believe it. Watch it come to pass.

This past year a part of my daily affirmation was that “I AM a great teacher.” That’s all I wanted to be. Little did I know, that by saying that daily, not only did I believe that I was a great teacher, I also received top recognition in math because my students grew tremendously in that area.

Once I became aware of how I can shape my reality great things began to happen.  No I don’t have everything I want or am at the exact place I want to be, but if I continue to affirm what I want, I know I will get there.  I know what and who I am and what I am capable of having…no one or nothing will make me believe different.

So let me ask…Who are you?
